Young people can apply for funding from the Youth Opportunity & Youth Capital Funds for projects and activities that benefit your group and others in the wider community. Grants are given by a panel of young people who have the responsibility in deciding if the money will be well used and the project, activity or equipment, will be beneficial to the community.
The Department for Children, Schools and Familes is providing money for young people to help fund projects and positive activities. The Youth Opportunity and Youth Capital Funds are for young people aged 13 - 19 (or up to 25 if you have a disability). Ideas for grants must come from and be driven by young people. Groups must be supported by a responsible adult.
The Youth Opportunity & Youth Capital Fund Panel was set up in October 2006. A group of young people were recommended to take part in the panel and were trained for their roles during a residential experience. Young People meet on a fortnightly basis to sit on the panel and made decisions on applications from young people who have a project or activity that they would to be funded. Young people are supported by a youth worker and admin support throughout the process enabling them to be fully involved and true decision makers.
